The Abstract World of Mark Rothko

Abstract expressionism, also known as the colorfield movement is something you should be able to appreciate. This includes the works of Mark Rothko. The American painter became more and more famous over the years and his works have become an integral part of the art world.

Mark Rothko was born in what we now call Latvia, but after a few years the family emigrated to Portland, Oregon. He studied at Yale, but soon moved to New York where he continued his passion for painting. Here he continued his studies and briefly received painting lessons from Max Weber. Over the years, he eventually arrived at the abstract expressionism art style. Much of his works can be seen in the Rothko Chapel located in Houston, Texas.
