The Success of Pink Floyd

The Pink Floyd story begins in the mid-1960s. The English band, then led by Syd Barrett, had modest success with its psychedelic rock. However, Barrett's drug use caused problems. He was unreliable and sometimes just stared straight ahead on stage. In 1968 Barrett left the group and David Gilmour was recruited as the new lead singer and guitarist. Roger Waters takes the creative leadership and by 1970 Pink Floyd have become a veritable super band with millions of records sold and sold out tours.

Are you a fan of the early, more psychedelic work of this British band? Or do you prefer later albums like Wish You Were Here or Animals? After The Division Bell (1993) and the live album P.U.L.S.E. Pink Floyd's story seems to have come to an end. But in 2002 the compilation album Echoes is released and in 2005 the band is on stage one more time as part of Live 8. In 2014 some members released a new, but probably their last album: The Endless River, a tribute to the now deceased keyboardist Richard Wright.
